BIGBANG to Forgo Year-End Music Shows This Year

 

YG Entertainment has announced that popular group BIGBANG won’t be attending any of the year-end music award shows in Korea.

According to the company, at this time the members are only focusing on their world tour and the completion of their “MADE” album.

From May to August of this year BIGBANG regularly released one to two single tracks each month, and dominated the music charts for four consecutive months. Recently, they have collected a variety of trophies from award shows such as the MelOn Music Awards and the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards. The claimed the daesang (grand prize) at both shows.

In addition, BIGBANG also took multiple spots on the 2015 list of YouTube’s most watched K-pop videos. “Bang Bang Bang” and “Loser” placed first and second respectively, and “Bae Bae” and “Let’s Not Fall in Love” both ranked within the top ten.

BIGBANG made a huge comeback in 2015, dominating the music charts month after month with their “MADE” releases. Now, nearing year’s end, the group is dominating award shows, as well, winning “Song of the Year” and “Artist of the Year” at the Mel0n Music Awards, and “Worldwide Favorite Artist,” “Song of the Year,” and “Artist of the Year” at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (2015 MAMA).

With that kind of year, promoting for months and months, how much does a group like BIGBANG make?

According to the December 14 episode of tvN’s “The List 2015,” BIGBANG raked in 11.5 billion won (approximately $9.7 million) from music sales. Adding that to a whopping 140 billion won (approximately $118.4 million) from the “MADE” tour, the group brought in over 150 billion won (approximately $128 million) in 2015 from their “MADE” promotions alone.
