[30th Golden] “Golden Disc Music Awards” K-Pop’s great achievements garnered by BIGBANG

[일간스포츠=황미현 기자] The hero of the 30th Golden Disc Music Awards was BIGBANG.
BIGBANG who celebrates the 30th anniversary of their debut this year made a meaningful smile, receiving the honorable grand prize from the 30th Golden Disc Music Awards (digital songs segment) held on the 20 this month at the Peace Hall of Kyunghee University.
BIGBANG took triple crowns from the awards for this year, including the grand prize for the best song of the year, a main prize, and Aichii male artist award.
BIGBANG was the most promising nominee for the grand prize of the music awards. BIGBANG released new songs every month from May to August last year, creating big hit and big sensation. Every time the team unveiled new songs, they swept No.1 on music charts and never missed the top place on monthly charts. The big sensation created by BIGBANG then is still continuing.
BIGBANG took No.1 for four months in a row on Gaon digital chart, with “LOSER” of “M”, the first single of their “MADE” project, with “BANG BANG BANG” of second single “A” released in June, “IF YOU” of third single “D” released in July, and then with “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE” of last single “E”.
It was first such case in Korea for a group to take No.1 on monthly chart for four months in a row. As the unprecedented record well-demonstrated BIGBANG’s unlimited potential, BIGBANG stood under a big spotlight.
BIGBANG gave performances in Korea for a long time last year, releasing one single with two songs every month from May to August. They did not stop giving performances in Korea even though they were so busy with their world tour. BIGBANG’s special commitment to fans won the hearts and minds of fans.
After leading their “MADE” album to a great success, BIGBANG continued their success overseas. Beginning from a concert held on October 2 (local time) last year at Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, BIGBANG held a tour in the States, on October 3 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and on October 4 at Honda Center in Anaheim. More than 30,000 tickets for the three concerts held in three cities in America were sold out, bringing a big success to BIGBANG’s American tour.
That was the first BIGBANG tour in North America in three years since “ALIVE GALAXY TOUR” held in 2012. The 2012 tour was held in four cities in two countries, including Los Angeles, Anaheim, New Jersey, and a city in Peru. BIGBANG’s North America tour last year was larger in the scale, with concerts in six cities in three countries including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Anaheim, New Jersey, Toronto in Canada, and Mexico City in Mexico, showing how much BIGBANG’s influence has grown in the region.
The big popularity of BIGBANG who created sensation for four months last year is still continuing. The music video of BIGBANG’s “BANG BANG BANG” surpassed 100 million views on the 19 this month, within seven months of the song’s release. “BANG BANG BANG” is BIGBANG’s second song whose video surpassed 100 million views following the same record of the video of “FANTASTIC BABY”, which makes BIGBANG the only Korean idol group that holds such a record.

‘Only About A Year Left For You To BIGBANG Team On Stage’ T.O.P Tells Crowd At 2016 Golden Disk Awards

Another awards show, another chance for a BIGBANG member to strike fear in the hearts of the K-pop boy band’s longtime fans.

Rapper T.O.P began his acceptance speech for one of three awards his group won at Wednesday’s 30th annual Golden Disk Awards in Seoul, South Korea with a promise they would continue to mature just as performers, but as people.

“Rather than being flashy outwardly as artists, we will try our best to be beautiful on the inside as we grow up,” T.O.P said.

That was when the K-pop icon launched into the news that (while inevitable considering South Korea’s law that all eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must enroll in nearly two years of military service), no fan of the band wanted to hear.

“From now on, I think there is only about a year left for you to BIGBANG team on stage,” said the 28-year-old star. “In that time, we’ll try even harder to touch your hearts and answer with awesome music.”

And T.O.P isn’t the only BIGBANG member to use the band’s recent public appearances as a forum to hint to fans that the group, at least with its original lineup, is not going to be around for much longer.

At last month’s Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Hong Kong, it was Taeyang’s turn to drop some truth on the crowd.

“It may be difficult for all five of the BIGBANG members to attend MAMA all together from now on,” said the BIGBANG singer, age 27.

“It was an honor to be able to put on the kind of performances we wanted to through MAMA and thank you for the great award.”

The subtlety wasn’t lost on fans (or the Korean entertainment media). Allkpop reader Danixkm is crushed by the revelation.

“Did you hear that?” the fan asked in a comment posted Wednesday. “It was just the sound of my heart breaking. At least they have such loyal fans that’ll be waiting for them to all be together again.”

In addition to winning Digital Single of the Year and the Daesang Grand Prize at The 2016 Golden Disk Awards, G-Dragon won the iQIYI Male Artist Award. Including these most recent honors, BIGBANG’s “MADE” series of eight singles released throughout the summer of 2015 has won 23 awards.

“MADE” has yet to be released as an album in Korea, but is scheduled to come out as as a full-length in Japan on Feb. 3 including Japanese language versions of the songs “Loser,” “Bang Bang Bang” and “If You.”
