Sadly, many of our beloved idols have suffered from depression and anxiety on more than one occasion. With a hectic schedule and demanding job, being an idol isn’t all fun and games and these idols are proof that behind their sweet smiles may lay some emotional pain. Check out this list of idols you didn’t know suffered from these terrible conditions.

BIGBANG G-Dragon

The quirky entertainer revealed after the release of “Heartbreaker” he “felt like a criminal” and “was depressed for a really long time” due to a plagiarism scandal.

After School Lizzy

After first starting hit show ‘Running Man,’ Lizzy revealed she suffered from depression due to media reports involving her position on the show. Rumors seem to always cause stress for idols and Lizzy was another victim of it.

Super Junior Heechul

Friendships can make or break you – and for Super Junior’s Heechul it was more devastating. After the departure of member Hankyung, Heechul felt a void in his life and said, “Hyung we don’t need you for your singing or your dancing but we need you because without you Super Junior isn’t the same.” 

B1A4 Baro

Distance makes the heart grow fonder, but in this case it made it worse. After filming ‘Reply 1994,’ Baro became very attached to the cast and grew upset due to their busy schedules. Because he couldn’t m, he started becoming melancholic.

U-KISS Kiseop

Before joining U-KISS, Kiseop revealed he suffered from depression and even had thoughts of suicide due to his many failed auditions.

BIGBANG T.O.P

The charismatic rapper was reported to have suffered from anxiety attacks alongside his depression in 2008. Fans speculated he was overworked and that his frequent trips to the hospital were the cause behind it. While we hope he has recovered, T.O.P actually wrote the lyrics to “Loser,” which has us thinking otherwise.

2AM Jinwoon

Success isn’t everything. After a major U.S tour back in 2010, member Jinwoon stated he had suffered from depression. He couldn’t sleep or function properly form months at a time and often spent his days alone.

Girls’ Generation Taeyeon

The wonderful Singer Taeyeon was noted for having depression and stated she’d get “Multiple piercings to relieve stress.” Her members often commented on her melancholic mood and the way she’d only listen to sad music.

Super Junior Henry

Henry revealed on MBC’s ‘Real Men’ that he suffered from anxiety due to his ADHD for some time. His unpredictable behavior and erratic tendencies made him worrisome and bothered from time to time.

Miss A Suzy

“I have something like depression and I couldn’t tell anyone for a while. I even began to think I couldn’t last another day. One day I was chatting with my friend and laughing at a joke and all of a sudden I began crying.” Believe it or not this was a confession Suzy opened up about in 2013 on a live broadcast. While she may be in the spotlight for many great reasons, Suzy found herself struggling internally.

2AM Jo Kwon

While he may bring laughter to the stage, it was revealed that Jo Kwon suffered during his 8 years of training and felt overwhelmed by the stress of transitioning into an idol.

IU

The beautiful angel IU was noted to suffer from Bulimia and used food as a coping method. She would even eat until the point of throwing up.
